No Language Barriers in Photography

I love the fact that I can sit down with anyone in the world, show them images and not have to interpret. Pictures speak for themselves...the photographer brings the interpretation in his/her style and the spectator conceives.

Merging God Thoughts with Great Shots

It's been well over seven years since I started Fresh Focuses. In the beginning, with the help of my son, Kai, I manufactured bookmarks, magnets, prints and God Thought Cards, but the business grew to include greeting cards and photography in and of itself.

The product side of Fresh Focuses is still growing, but the photography has really taken off and I'm enjoying this season of my career. I'm also a public relations consultant and casual writer working contractually in another business I've formed, Helen Publications.

Currently I have several books in the process, a women's devotional, a health/cook book, children's and a Christian resource manual for life.

I think I was seven-years-old when I began a journal and that continued throughout my life. Photography was always a fascination to me and in college I converted our spare bathroom into a darkroom...that lasted 14 years...the darkroom that is...not my time in college.

After spending one year studying business in college (NAU-Flagstaff), I realized the business building was not my domain and transferred over to Art and Communications, i.e., journalism. With a six-year-old son and a supportive husband, my mind soaked up the world of public relations and photography. For extra credit I documented hang gliding (my husband's favorite sport) by publishing articles in local magazines and newspapers. Using my new pr skills I promoted hang gliding in and throughout Arizona.

Fresh Focuses has been a challenge, and there have been a lot of let-downs from all sides. So many times I've wanted to quit and just go work for a firm. But the Lord has closed all those doors.

I guess I could write a lot about the disapointments I've faced, but instead, well, this is cool. I was at this biker show in Dixon and there I was with all my products set up near a corn field with hard core biker paraphilnia booths set up all around me (don't ask me how I got there, helping a friend, I guess).

So this lady comes up and picks up a picture of my husband biking up this beautiful mountain in Colorado, on the print was the scripture, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith (2Timothy 4:7)." With tears in her eyes she said her deceased son was a mountain cylist and the picture and the words reminded her of him. I sold her the picture for half price, it was my only sale that day but the joy that sale gave me carried me through to the next show.
